Match 6 Pennsylvania Exposed — Choose 6 Numbers, Get a Ticket with 18!
Match 6 Review
While Powerball and Mega Millions are obviously the most prominent US lotteries, there are other possibilities to try. The jackpots aren’t as impressive, but the odds of winning at least a small amount are much better.
Pennsylvania’s Match 6 is one such lottery. A single ticket costs 2 dollars and there’s a minimum guaranteed jackpot of 500,000 dollars. Match 6 has a couple of other fun perks that make the lottery worth giving a try.

Match 6: A Brief Overview
In 2004, Pennsylvania Lottery introduced Match 6 – a game that came to replace the previous Super 6 Lotto. Ticket sales were initiated on January 28, 2004.
It seemed that the game wasn’t that popular at first. A final drawing took place on March 6, 2009, after which Pennsylvania Lottery announced the discontinuation of the game. Little did they know that popular demand would bring the game back.
On October 3, 2009, Match 6 was re-launched. Popular demand made it obvious that people want the game to carry on, regardless of the fact that it wasn’t as prominent at first. Pennsylvania Lottery adhered to popular demand and Match 6 is still available to try today.
How to Play Match 6?
The lottery is relatively simple. A single ticket will cost you 2 dollars. To play, choose 6 numbers in the range from 1 to 49. You will randomly be assigned 2 additional sets of ticket numbers that will be printed randomly on the ticket.
This means that when playing, you have a total of 18 numbers.
Because of this set of 18 numbers, each player has the chance to win 4 times per individual ticket. The possible numerical combinations that can eventually lead to a win are once on each of the individual lines and once again through a combination of the 18.
There’s a minimum guaranteed jackpot of 500,000 dollars per drawing.
Match 6 Odds and Prizes
The jackpot will be won by people who match all 6 of the numbers for the respective drawing. The odds of getting these numbers correct are 1 in 4,661,272.
Match | Odds |
---|---|
6 | 1 in 4,661,272 |
5 | 1 in 18,067 |
4 | 1 in 344,47 |
3 | 1 in 19,22 |
If there’s no winner for the respective drawing, the jackpot amount will roll over toward the next one. Thus, Match 6 can produce some pretty spectacular top-tier prizes. The biggest jackpot ever fell on October 3, 2013. It had reached 7.3 million dollars prior to being won.
Statistics suggest that the average jackpot people can expect to win by playing Match 6 is 1.36 million dollars. Not bad for an investment of just 2 dollars! The average jackpot increase per rollover is 98,527 dollars, but the number varies. If more tickets are bought for the respective drawing, the growth will be higher.
Apart from the jackpot, there are three additional prize tiers per single line of 6. 5 correct numbers will produce a prize of 1,000 dollars. The odds of this happening are 1 in 18,067. A match of 4 correct numbers produces a prize of 20 dollars and 3 correct numbers produce a prize of 2 dollars. The odds are 1 in 344 and 1 in 19.22.
When it comes to combined odds of winning for all of the 18 numbers per ticket, here are the additional prizes. If you match 10 or more numbers from the 18, you’ll win a prize of 2,500 dollars. For 9 matches, the prize will be 1,000 dollars, for 8 – 50 dollars, 7 – 25 dollars, 6 – 10 dollars, 5 – 5 dollars, and for 4 matches out of the 18 you will win 2 dollars. These prizes can come on top of the prize per line.
The overall odds of winning any Match 6 prize are 1 in 5.9. Those are some pretty impressive numbers in comparison to the odds of bigger lotteries in the US.
A Little Bit of Useful Information for Winners
Retailers in Pennsylvania can validate winning tickets, producing prizes of up to 2,500 dollars. Players have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim any prize, including the jackpot.
By law, lottery prizes in Pennsylvania are taxable. All lottery prizes that exceed 2,500 dollars will be subjected to a 25 percent federal tax and a 3.07 percent state tax. For foreigners who win Match 6, the federal tax is 30 percent.
Jackpots are paid out either in the form of a lump sum or as annuity payments.

Is Match 6 Pennsylvania Legit?
Match 6 is a completely legitimate opportunity to win some money. This lottery is the creation of Pennsylvania Lottery – an entity operated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Lottery was founded in 1971 and the first lottery tickets in the state were sold on March 7, 1972.
Today, Pennsylvania Lottery gives people in the state many opportunities to win some money. A few of the most popular games include Pick 2, Pick 3, Cash 5, Cash4Life, Treasure Hunt, and Wild Ball. In addition, the entity is responsible for organizing Powerball and Mega Millions in the state.
By state law, Pennsylvania Lottery is obliged to dedicate at least 40 percent of the funds generated through ticket sales to lottery prizes. Nearly 30 percent of the other funds are dedicated to good causes and funding programs.
Match 6 is thus legitimate and apart from giving you a chance to win money, it will also provide an opportunity to provide some bucks to a worthy cause in the state.
This is it! We hope the information is enough to help you figure out whether Match 6 is the lottery for you. If you’re in Pennsylvania, you’ll have to dedicate solely 2 dollars to the purchase of a ticket. In your place, we wouldn’t really hesitate. Good luck!

I have noticed in the last 6 months or so it’s a lot harder to win anything on Match 6. Have they increased the number of balls to be drawn from, I can get no answer from Pa lottery.

Would like match 6 to go back being a twice a week game
It’s a scam, this game should start @ 1 million, not $500,000; it should also go back to rewarding prize for 2 balls matched. Ohio has the same game & same jackpots & they draw 3 nites a week & their game price is still $1.00.

I like the added prizes with the 18 numbers versus a straight ticket line lottery. Basically like Canada’s Lotto Max, when you buy one ticket line, you automatically get a random pick of two more. So there is the regular draw (pretty good odds) plus there is some extra draws based on the full 18 numbers. Pretty cool. Shame this can’t be played online.
