Kathelyn Dupaya
Kathelyn first decided to play the lottery when she and her husband were in the process of building their home in the Philippines. The company her husband worked for had closed, and they were worried about how they would come up with the rest of the money for the project.
While driving one day, her child pointed out numbers on a vehicle. These numbers are what Kathelyn decided to play. Much to her surprise, those numbers won her the grand prize, which was about P1 million.
Since the big win, she has continued to have a winning streak—that arose suspicions. In 2009, the family’s home was raided by authorities because they were suspected of illegal activities. Her husband was even suspended from work.
Feeling lost, she decided to gamble her last 50 Brunei dollars and played the lotto. She wins P3 million. Later, she tried again and won P10 million. In 2010, her daughters played the lotto, and they won an astounding P33 million!
Calvin and Zatera Spencer
Calvin and Zatera Spencer may be one of the luckiest couples in the United States. The Spencers won $1 million Powerball on March 12th. But then on the 26th, they won $50,000 in Virginia’s Pick 4 Lottery. Then the very next day, Calvin Spencer purchased a Virginia Lottery Scratcher ticket which landed them the big $1 million prize.
The couple chose to take their winnings in one lump sum ($681,000 after taxes).
Richard Lustig
Back in 1992, Richard Lustig had his first lottery win, which was a $10,000 payout. He continued to play, and he thought it was sheer luck that he won two more times. However, on the fourth win, he realized he had a method of playing. When he won his fifth grand prize, $842,000, people started to believe him when he said it was more than luck.
Throughout the seven (yes, seven) wins, he claims he has won over a million dollars. He even has a book that explains how he won!
Joan R. Ginther
When you hear about someone winning the lotto multiple times, it may feel like a coincidence. However, when they win large prizes several times, you may begin to rethink that thought.
Joan R. Ginther won multiple million-dollar payouts, which amounts to approximately $20 million, in total. The odds of this happening are calculated to be one in eighteen septillions, and that kind of luck would only come around once every quadrillion years (or… Never?)
Her winning streak came into question when a reporter for the Harper, Nathanial Rich, pointed out that she was a former math professor with a Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford.
There are multiple theories about her wins; some say it was God; some say that she figured out the algorithm that determines where the big winning ticket is on the roll of scratch-offs. Whatever it is, we want some of her luck!
