Pick Winning Numbers: It’s Not Magic — Or Is It?

Picking winning numbers

A Science of Picking Winning Numbers

Any normal person would think that picking random numbers would be easy. Oh, if you’re anything like me and think this, you’re very wrong. According to my trusty lottery gurus, there is a science to it! I know! A science to picking random numbers! There is a chart of all the winning numbers, and the chart shows you how often these numbers are chosen (it makes me wonder if those balls were rigged…) in any given time frame. From here, you can choose your winning numbers. But don’t be like me and look at the wrong chart for your numbers. If you’re going to play the Mega Millions, you don’t want to use the PowerBall chart. Just a little FYI from one newbie to another.

I also learned that there were several different ways you can choose these numbers. Who knew picking numbers would be such a complicated process? Here are some of the ways you can pick your numbers other than the frequency chart thing.

  • Delta Method
  • Lucky Numbers
  • Random Number Generator

Delta Method – Calculator Not Included

This has got to be one of the most complex methods out of the bunch. If you’re a number fanatic, this is your way. I had to read it several times to understand it—and I’m not 100% I understand it! I want to win the lottery, not revisit algebra class!

  • Choose a very low number (ex. 2)
  • Choose two numbers between 1 and 8 (ex. 4 and 6)
  • Choose a number close to 8 (ex. 9)
  • Choose two numbers between 8 and 15 (ex. 12 and 14)
  • Write down the delta numbers. (My numbers were 2-4-6-9-12-14)
  • Shuffle your delta numbers. (ex. 6-12-2-14-9-4)
  • Write down the first delta number (This will be your first lottery number)
  • Add the first and the second numbers together, and continue to the end.
  • Add all your numbers so to make sure their sum is not higher than the highest number in the drawing

Fortune Cookies Are Good for Something After All!

This is more my speed. Do you know the lucky numbers that are on Chinese fortune cookies? You can use these numbers, or you can choose numbers that mean something to you. These could include birth dates, ages, addresses, and phone numbers… Anything.

Random Number Generators

Some gurus claim to have the best random number generators. They say that they take the algorithms from the frequency charts and they choose the numbers for you. Generators like Random.org or LotteryRandom.com are just some of the free-to-use generators. I wish I found these before I paid for the membership!

Let the Machine Pick it For You

If you don’t feel lucky and you don’t want to pay someone else to pick your numbers for you, there is an option to let the lottery machine randomly select the numbers for you. I guess it can’t be much different than using a random number generator. Statistics show that more people win when they let the machine pick for them than they randomly pick their numbers. Now, what does that tell you?

  1. I am Romanian. We have 6/49, 5/45 with 1/20 and 5/40 with 6 number on condition to hit the 1st 5 out of 6. We pay more than 1$ per one number set. All 3 games have Luck numbers attached but not forced to play them. The jackpot never went higher than 15 mil $ and that was like 3 times. My strategy is to observe an interesting thing that happens every now and then, the numbers repeat in a sequence. What I do is this: I look at the last draw and ctrl-F each number in a list of excel document. The archive is 1993 and 2000 (depending on if 6/49 or 5/45 plus1/20). The 5/45 we call it Joker. I play Joker more often. There are less odds with Joker than 6/49, believe it or not. That is because the 1/20 added to 5/45. Let’s say that the numbers are 7.21.35.40.43 – 18. I ctrl-F for number 43. I will find out above, like pretty soon, that there was 4 weeks ago ( 8 drawings ago ) that there was a 43. But that 43 had a 35 or even a 3rd match, like 7. So I look into that draw, above and bellow and I pick out of them numbers. Probability. They always repeat. Best repeating is Joker. Best prizes are Joker. 9 prizes if hit 1+Joker, 2+J, and so on, plus 3 numbers plain, and so on. With 6/49 you get 4 prizes. For 3,4,5,6 numbers hit. More expensive too. So depends on what your favorite lottery yields too. Good luck!

  2. All lottery combinations for all the games are in a simple sequence.
The main frame computer is programmed to CONTROL the combinations.
The program: does not draw the same combination twice. after drawn it’s put in a dead file.
A ticket bought is compared against sequence inventory.
    Run 1:
Sort into sequence to correspond with master file sequence.
    Program sorts by LOCATIONS.
Etc…The little balls flying up in the air are not random.

  3. Michael, I will give you this, when the number 11 comes out on a draw, the following draw use 24, when a 33 is drawn the next draw use a 26

  4. I have been playing lotto now for about 35 years and I have to say I have used every system that is out there every new idea that jumps in my head and tried many times to create my own system but time and time again no joy! Don’t get me wrong when I say I have not one anything is far from the truth I have won 2 x $1200 dollar prices at different times and many small ones that never covered the cost of the tickets I purchased so after all this I still keep trying ! you think I would have learned by now but still I purchase my numbers each week and cross my fingers after all someone out there wins every week so why can’t it be me right? Another new lotto system has just hit the internet so looks like I will give this on a try ! What’s $50 if it can win me the big one right. If I do any good with it I will let you know but for now happy selecting and good luck (You’re going to need it).
