4 Lucky People Who Won the Lottery Twice in the Same Day!

There is a saying that “lightning never strikes twice”, but there are exceptions to the rule. These next four people all won the lottery twice in the same day and their stories are exceptional!

North Carolina Double Winner!

30th October started out as just another day for Kimberly Morris of Wake Forest, in North Carolina, but it ended as one she’ll never forget. On that day she went to the Harris Teeter supermarket and bought a $4,000,000 Diamond Dazzler ticket. She was lucky enough to win $10,000 dollars from it when her numbers came up.

She immediately got in her car and drove over to the lottery headquarters to claim her prize. Morris said: “I was shocked, it felt really great to win, but I really have always dreamed I would win $1 million!” when she spoke to the press at the North Carolina Lottery Headquarters.

Obviously believing her luck was in, she stopped on her drive home and popped into the Quality Food Mart in Raleigh. There she purchased a second $4,000,000 Diamond Dazzler ticket. To her surprise and everyone else’s she became the first person to win a $1 million dollar prize from the $20 scratch card lottery game!

Obviously, in a total daze, she called her husband John, who picks up the story here, commenting: “She was freaking out on the phone, I couldn’t understand her, so I told her to slow down. When I realized what she was saying, I didn’t believe her at first. I had to come home and see it for myself.”

That same day Kimberly drove once more lottery headquarters in Raleigh, in a state of disbelief, to claim her second prize. There she was given the choice of taking the money in the form of $50,000 paid out once a year or a total lump sum of $600,000.

Morris and her husband decided to go for the lump sum, which after taxes was $417,012, though many financial advisers warn against this and tell people to choose the annual payment as it’s less likely you’ll blow the lot and end up in debt!

Morris tells the lottery that she plans to invest the money and share it with her children – and she says she had an absolute blast playing the lottery!

California Double Love!

Mario Martinez wasn’t ever expecting to win the lottery, but somehow, he managed to buy two tickets from the same store and win twice…one the same day!

The California Lottery announced in their September press release that Mr Martinez purchased a “Twisted Scratchers” ticket and a “50X the Money” ticket from his local Extra Plus store, and both tickets had winning numbers on them.

His “Twisted Scratchers” ticket was worth $1,000 and the “50X the Money” numbers ended up paying out $1,000,000!

Martinez went to cash in his tickets at the California Lottery’s Santa Fe Springs District Office There, he spoke to lottery officials and said that he and his wife have literally no idea how they’re going to spend their money once the check comes in. Martinez simply commented that as they weren’t expecting the money, they’ve no clue what to do with it. Oh, to be in that position.

Virginia’s Virginian Winning Streak

Virginia Fike, who also happens to live in the state with the same name, is another lucky soul who has managed to win the lottery not once, but twice and in the same day. She hails from Berryville. In early April, Fike she stopped off at the Olde Stone Truck Stop in Virginia to purchase two tickets that, when the lottery was drawn, both matched five of the six Powerball numbers. The draw netted her $2 million!

Explaining her system, she said “I picked numbers based on my parents’ anniversary and their ages at that time, divided by the year they were married, I just love the jackpot games and I play when I can afford it.”

After the drawing, it was announced that no one had won the jackpot total of $80 million, but there were fourteen people who had matched five of the numbers and won the same prize money that Virginia had.

When she stopped by a convenience store on the way home from visiting her mother in hospital, Fike had the shop clerk check her numbers and it was there she discovered she’d won. When asked what she’d spend it on, she said she hadn’t thought of anything other than paying off her bills!

UK Lottery Proves Two Isn’t a Crowd!

Jane and Alan Slater, from the Isle of Wight, have a very unusual tale to tell regarding their lottery win. They had both bought a winning ticket for the same draw with exactly the same numbers. Neither of them knowing the other one had bought it! When the lottery draw was made, they both scooped £149,089.30!

Mr Slater, who is 65 commented: “I discovered our first win in the early hours of Wednesday morning when I came in from work. ‘To wind down from the shift I decided to check the football results and our EuroMillions numbers, but what I saw soon put a stop to my gentle wind down. We’d matched five main numbers and a lucky star with our numbers so I ran upstairs telling Jane to get out of bed, she just grumbled at me that it better be a good reason!”

However, it’s the family dog that provides the key to the second win! The second ticket was left on the back seat of the couple’s car, hidden inside a catalogue. Their dog, Ruby, accidentally uncovered it!

Mrs Slater continues the tale and says: “We had a lovely walk chatting about the amazing start to the week with our EuroMillions win and how lucky we had been. Ruby hopped onto the back seat with me and disturbed this piece of paper inside a catalogue which gently floated down to my feet.”

This ticket also had the same winning numbers on, meaning that they scooped another £149,089.30 prize. They shared a few tears together, unable to believe their luck – and have said they hope to use the money to help their two children and enjoy retirement with their dogs.
